Baby and child photos for India visa, OCI and passport
Quick answer
Children use the same photo size and background as adults. The OCI guidance lets babies under one have their eyes closed, and the OCI photo sheet allows children under ten some latitude on head size.

Official screenshots and examples
Current mission guidance explains the OCI minor’s signature. Check the separate photo requirements for the actual application; do not transfer OCI exceptions to passport or e-Visa preparation.
1. Read the mission’s child-photo and signature instructions
For Auckland OCI minors who cannot sign, the page asks for a left thumb impression in the child’s signature box. Parents must not sign there. Check the central OCI photo requirements and your own mission’s child instructions.

2. Read current passport photo guidance
The mission’s current page specifies an unaltered 630 × 810 pixel photograph, white background, visible eyes, neutral expression and even lighting. This is public guidance, not an authenticated upload screen.

What changes for children
OCI: babies under one
The official OCI photograph sheet makes open eyes optional for babies under one.
OCI: children under ten
The OCI photo sheet allows children under ten some latitude on how much of the frame the head fills. Check the e-Visa instructions separately.
Passport and surrender
The guidance TravelPrepKit cites does not publish a child exception, so the adult 630×810 rules apply.
What stays the same
The shape, pixel size, file size and background colour are the same as for an adult on the same application. One face only: a parent's hands or shoulder in the frame counts as a second person or a busy background.
When you prepare an OCI photo, TravelPrepKit asks the applicant's age so the baby and child exceptions are applied to the checks.
Questions
Do babies need their eyes open in an OCI photo?
Not under one year old. The official OCI photograph sheet makes open eyes optional for babies under one.
Is a child's passport photo a different size?
No. It is the same 630×810 pixel photo on a white background as an adult's.
Can a parent hold the baby for the photo?
Only if no part of the parent shows. The photo must contain one face and a plain, uniform background.
Is a Form I birth-registration photo the same as an e-Visa or passport photo?
No. The published Form I child photograph is a 100×120-pixel JPG no larger than 20 KB. Use the Form I size guide for birth registration abroad instead of an e-Visa, OCI or passport preset.
