Screens from the government's January 2026 technical SOP, checked alongside the current e-OCI FAQ. Generating e-OCI is free. It is for an OCI record you already hold; it does not replace an OCI application or change your status.
1. Register if you do not have a portal account
Use the official OCI portal's registration option if needed. The email must match the email linked to your OCI record. If the record has no email, complete Email ID Updation through Miscellaneous Services first.
Official example · 30 Jan 2026 SOP · p. 2.
2. Log in to the OCI portal
Log in with your own account and complete any verification prompts yourself. Never share your password or verification code.
Official example · 30 Jan 2026 SOP · p. 3.
3. Open the e-OCI request
Use the e-OCI Card Request option in your dashboard and follow its prompts with your own OCI record. Resolve any required record update before generating the card.
Official example · 30 Jan 2026 SOP · p. 4.
4. Wait while the request is processed
The published example shows a request in progress. Wait for the portal's status to change; this screen is not a promise of an instant download.
Official example · 30 Jan 2026 SOP · p. 5.
5. Download and check the e-OCI
When Download is available, save your e-OCI and check its details. The official FAQ allows up to five downloads a day. Your physical card remains valid; follow the FAQ's travel instructions.
